Honestly - I really love the immediate gratification that new technology provides, like up-to-date news headlines, the opportunity to select what movie you want to watch, current stock market, finding a mate, instant chatting with people several time zones away...and the like.
But a friend and I were discussing how people don't even answer their cell phones anymore. Or even leave a message, if the person doesn't answer. Instead, we need to contact each other on Facebook to get any quick response. And even email, while my preferred mode of contact, has it's limits. You have to wait for a reply for - sometimes - hours. And what if you get the email address wrong? Then not only are you waiting, but unless a bounceback shows up - you have no idea if your intended recipient even got the thing.
The other day, I emailed a friend about running into a mutual acquaintance. Inadvertently, I got the email address wrong. And not just to someone else in my address book - no - to a complete stranger. But I didn't know that right away. They answered me - like they knew who I was. Skipping the obvious clue that this person and I did not actually know each other (Mr E), I was left quite confused.
here is the reply I got:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Mr E,
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
What does that even mean?!?!
Since they seemed to know Colleen, I reread the message, to see if it made any more sense.
It didn't.
But I wonder: who is this person?
And: who do they think I am?
And: what if by some stroke of fate, we were talking about the same Colleen?
Wouldn't THAT be odd?
